The Malaysia Kind Hearts Award is inspired by the humanitarian work of Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, widely known as Uncle Kentang. Over the years, his efforts to help the sick, the poor, and the vulnerable have brought together many Malaysians who believe in the power of compassion and community support.
What began as small acts of kindness by ordinary citizens slowly grew into a wider movement. Many individuals stepped forward to help people in need, often without ever meeting them in person. These efforts showed how collective compassion can make a real difference in the lives of those facing hardship.
In 2019, Pertubuhan Amal Uncle Kentang Malaysia was established as a non-governmental organisation to continue this mission in a more structured way. The organisation focuses on providing practical help to those who need it most, especially individuals who are sick, bedridden, or unable to access essential services.
One of the key services provided is affordable ambulance and mobility transport for patients who cannot afford medical transportation to hospitals. The team also responds to emergency situations and daily requests for assistance, receiving calls from people across the country seeking help during difficult moments.
Behind these efforts is a dedicated group of volunteers, supporters, and partners who share the same belief that kindness should not depend on race, religion, or background. By working together, they aim to reduce suffering, restore dignity, and bring hope to those who need it most.
The Malaysia Kind Hearts Award was created to honour this spirit of compassion. It recognises individuals and organisations who have walked the same path of service, quietly helping others and making a lasting impact on their communities.
